The Lady Wildcats of Wheatley High School won first place in the Corpus Christi Basketball Tournament held during the Winter Break. Ashley Howard, #20, was named MVP of the tournament. As of January 17, 2010, the Lady Wildcats are 16 – 1 overall. The Houston Chronicle has the team ranked number 7 in the greater Houston area. Coach Dedreck Carr has the team focused and are preparing to go deep into the playoffs.

Despite losing a couple of players to D-1 schools and acquiring a new head coach, Wheatley High School Basketball program continues to shine.   As of January 17, 2010, the Wildcats are 5-0 in district play.  The team now has sole possession of first place in District 22-4A.

Parents and students at Wheatley High School participated in a College Forum on Thursday, January 14, 2010.  A host of colleges were on hand to distribute literature and share information with parents and students.  In addition to this, Wheatley’s Culinary Arts students under the direction of Ms. Adams served pasta to participants as a special class project.
